Moving, Work, and Spanish Lessons...Days 33-40

Ok, so I haven't been a very "good" blogger this week. I kept telling myself that I'd take more photos and then I'd write something, but as it turns out, this week just wasn't a picture taking week for me. And I think that's ok. I'll take more next week!

This past week was mainly filled with my move from my old place to my new one. The hotel is still the same, but the location is much better. I no longer feel unsafe or isolated when walking alone outside at night and I'm super thankful for that - especially since it's fall here and the nights are getting shorter and shorter. Below is a photo of my new place.

It's alright. Although, I have to admit, I never really understood why people had a problem spending extended stays in a hotel. I mean, hotels are great! Except, now, I get it. Completely. This hotel isn't bad or anything, but it isn't really that great either, and living in a hotel for 3 months isn't entirely awesome. Granted, given the choice to live in a hotel for 3 months or not come, I would totally choose to suck it up and come! So I'm not complaining on that level. Just more to say that I get why consultants who travel all of the time much prefer to stay in nicer places. I can appreciate that over extended periods of time, the little luxuries nicer hotels would offer would be much appreciated.

That said, this is my home and I've unpacked and made myself at home and that is that! And the good thing about this place compared to my last place is not only is it in a better neighborhood, but they always have hot water (although you do need to shower quickly!) and they aren't stingy with towels. I have yet to find myself in the shower without a towel, which is basically awesome.

Oh and one thing I super love about the neighborhood? I live about 5 blocks from Benihana (which I've never been to in the states!) and they have an awesome outdoor happy hour that lasts until 8pm, where I can get hand rolls or regular rolls for between $3-4 and any drink I want for the same. Nuts! I took this tonight, and I'm pretty sure it's what happiness looks like:

Ok, enough about my hotel. What else is going on? Well, work has ramped up, which honestly has been great. I've always really been intrigued by international business, and now that I am here, working right in the thick of it, well I can say that I really love it. It's so complex and difficult and challenging and that is just exciting to me. There have been times in the last week I've thought to myself, dang, I wish I'd saved my textbook from B-school, or man, I wish I'd paid more attention in that class. Honestly, my NYU education has been helping me out a lot in the last few weeks, and for that, I am thankful!

Lastly, I've been studying my Spanish a lot. And this Saturday I had what I felt was my first really successful class. I was able to talk to my instructor the whole time, granted, in really basic Spanish, but still, it was Spanish! And this weekend I've been able to communicate with everyone I've come into contact with in Spanish. Sure, I've had to ask them to repeat, or talk slower, but still, all in Spanish. This is huge for me! And I've been so frustrated with my seemingly slow progress, I feel it's important to celebrate this particular victory :-)
